Frequently Asked Questions

  •  When are your worship services?  We have traditional worship services at 8:45 am and 11 am in the Sanctuary. We offer a contemporary worship service at 8:45 am in our Theatre (162 East Main Avenue). Nursery is provided for all church worship activities.

  • Do you have a weekly Children’s Ministry? Yes! We have age appropriate ministry for our children both on Sunday mornings (gathering at 9:45 am) followed by Sunday School from 10 – 10:45 am) AND on Wednesday evenings. We have a full-time Director of Children’s Ministries and Preschool

  •  What about your Preschool? We have a through the week school for preschoolers (half-day). 

  •  Do you have a weekly Youth Ministry? Yes! We have Middle School and Sr. High Sunday School classes on Sundays (gathering at 9:45 am in the Greene House and Sunday School classes from 10-10:45 am) AND weekly youth gatherings on Sunday evenings. We also provide prayer breakfasts and mid-week meetings at various times in the year. A hallmark of our youth ministry is mission involvement. We have a full-time Director of Student Ministries.

  •  What is the size of your church? We have seen growth over the last several years. We have about 1500 members and average almost 500 in worship. 

  • Do you offer online services? Yes!View our live stream at fumcgastonia.org/worship/view-services. New small groups are beginning to be offered online as well. We are also on social media platforms: Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and iTunes/Podcasts. 

  • Are you involved in the community? Yes! This church is downtown because we want to be downtown. We have a weekly breakfast ministry at The Salvation Army (every Tuesday), work with community ministry partners, and are proud to belong to the Chamber of Commerce.

  •  Are there small group offerings for all ages? We work to offer a variety of small groups throughout the year, ranging from in depth Bible Study to interest groups.

  • Do you have a quality music ministry? Yes! We have choirs for all ages, handbell choirs, and instrumental ensembles. Exceptional music is a hallmark of FUMC.


  • Are there programs for older adults? Yes! We have an active congregational care committee who helps us care for our senior adults, and a monthly “Friendship Connections” that meets at our church, and Friends on the Go adult trips. We also have a Community Health Ministry. 

  • What is the annual budget of the church? Our budget is around $1.7 million.
